The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is a government-owned entity that maintains over 16,000 miles of road in Arkansas, United States. As part of their initiative to provide real-time, accurate, and comprehensive traffic information, they developed a unique application called „I Drive Arkansas.“ This online portal and mobile app serve as a complete guide for travelers, providing updates on all roads, highways, and significant traffic spots across the state. A unique feature of this platform is its live streaming capabilities, powered by CamStreamer App, integrated into over 450 high-quality cameras supplied by Swedish manufacturer Axis Communications.
Technical solution
Since 2017, ARDOT started using the CamStreamer App for its live streaming feature on the „I Drive Arkansas“ platform. This in-camera app works with various models of Axis Communications cameras installed across the state‘s critical traffic locations. The most widely used models are AXIS P5655-E, AXIS P5635-E-MKII, and AXIS Q6215-LE, among others.
These cameras, embedded with the CamStreamer App, send an RTMP stream directly from the camera to the ARDOT platform. From there, the stream is relayed to the I Drive Arkansas website and mobile app, providing users with live, high-quality streaming of traffic situations across the state.
